Aerodrome. Please inform me (1) whether any expenditure
has already been incurred on the Sai Kung road extension

the aerodrome is regarded as essential for projected air

With reference to Mr. Amery's Secret despatch
of 9th April, 1929, and paragraphs fifteen and sixteen of Mr.
Smith's open despatch No.550 of 4th October, 1935, on the
subject of Kai Tak Aerodrome, I have the honour to address
you further on the subject of the area, shown edged green on
the enclosed plan, to the north of the existing aerodrome.
2.
This area is that referred to in paragraph
six of Mr. Dawson's report, a copy of which was forwarded to
Mr. Amery with my Secret despatch of 2nd November, 1928. The
Air Ministry did not consider it necessary at the time to adopt
Mr. Dawson's recommendation, but suggested that this area, and
the Gaol site area "should not be disposed of or developed in
"such a way as to render them unsuitable for eventual inclusion
"in the site, without further consideration." The Gaol site
has since been handed over to the Air Ministry for the exclusive
use of the Royal Air Force on terms involving payment to the
Colonial Government, vide correspondence terminating with my
telegram of 4th December, 1935.
3.
At a Conference held at Goverment House on
25th April, 1934, which was attended by Group Captain (now Air Commodore) Sydney Smith, 0.B.E., Officer Commanding Royal Air
